Luohu suits travellers crossing from Hong Kong. Luohu Port is the busiest land crossing to the mainland, with Luohu Commercial City right outside and Shenzhen railway station beside it. The Renmin South area around the Guomao Building gathers upmarket malls and several luxury hotels.
Dongmen and Diwang are the other shopping districts, and bars, karaoke lounges, and nightclubs draw visitors at night.

What are the main landmarks in Luohu District?
Dongmen, the old town, became a pedestrian street in 1999, with a bronze relief of the old market at its centre, and mainland China's first McDonald's opened there. Donghu Liyuan was China's first post-reform commodity housing estate. Three towers stand out: the Guomao Building, Shun Hing Square, long Shenzhen's tallest, and KK100, which took that title in 2011 at 441.28 metres.
What is the history of Luohu District?
Shenzhen began here as a market town, Shenzhen Hui, centred on present-day Dongmen, where a Tin Hau Temple once stood. The name is first recorded in 1410. The town grew past its bounds once the Kowloon to Canton Railway stopped there, and Japanese forces held it from 1942 to 1945.
In 1953 the county seat moved here from Nantou. Luohu became Shenzhen's first district in 1979, and Luohu hill was levelled for the station and the crossing. Yantian split off in 1997.
Where is Luohu District?
Luohu lies in the southern part of Shenzhen. Hongling Road parts it from Futian to the west, Wutong Mountain, at 944 metres the city's highest peak, from Yantian to the east, and Longgang lies to the north. The Shenzhen River forms its southern limit.
The hilly district holds the lakes Donghu, Honghu, and Xianhu, and the Shenzhen Reservoir, which supplies both Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
