The Museo Casa de la Memoria stands in Parque Bicentenario on Calle 51, a museum of Colombia's armed conflict that draws visitors up from central Medellín to the entrance of Villa Hermosa. Higher on the slope, the Casa Patrimonial Golondrinas anchors the Ecoparque Golondrinas, a restored heritage house set among the stone paths and streams of the Jardín Circunvalar.

Villa Hermosa grew on the wooded eastern slopes above central Medellín. Settlers from the towns of Antioquia built homes up the hillside barrio by barrio, and names like La Ladera and Llanaditas mark the terraces they cleared toward Cerro Pan de Azúcar. Later work reshaped its lower edge.
Parque Bicentenario replaced an old rubbish-strewn hollow, the Museo Casa de la Memoria rose beside it, and the Metrocable and Tranvía de Ayacucho tied the once-remote upper barrios into the wider city.
