What is the history of Aachen-Mitte?
The Romans knew this ground as Aquae Granni, a spa settlement raised over the Aachener Thermalquellen. Warm water started it. Charlemagne later made the same springs the seat of his palace, and the Granus Tower still marks that Carolingian court at the heart of what is now Aachen-Mitte.
