About Halla

What are the main landmarks in Halla?

Halla keeps no monument of its own. The draws sit close to the west, in the museum quarter of Hovinsaari and the harbour core of Kotkansaari: the maritime centre, the moored ships, the city churches of Kotka. Halla itself is working waterfront.

For sights, head west into the centre.

What is the history of Halla?

Halla belongs to the working east of Kotka. The city was chartered in 1879 as a sawmill and export port, and the waterfront here off the islands took its share of that timber and shipping trade as the town spread eastward past Hovinsaari. The quays did the heavy work.

They shaped the district.

Where is Halla?

Halla lies on the eastern edge of Kotka, out past the museum quarter of Hovinsaari. The harbour island of Kotkansaari sits to the west, with Korela and the fortress ground of Kyminlinna inland to the north-west, all within the same port on the coast of south-eastern Finland. Water rings it.
