What is the history of Kyminlinna?
Russia built the works after the Russo-Swedish War that ended in 1790, and Kyminlinna became the landward half of a double fortification whose seaward half was the Ruotsinsalmi sea fortress. It watched the King's Road. The whole scheme forms part of the South-Eastern Finland fortification system, and a guardhouse still stands on Hovinsaari.
