About Korela
What are the main landmarks in Korela?
Korela's draw is the Langinkoski. The Langinkosken keisarillinen kalastusmaja, the imperial fishing lodge by the rapids, is the district's set-piece, with the Langinkosken kirkko standing close by. Beyond them, the museums and harbour of Kotka gather on Kotkansaari to the south-east.
The lodge is the sight here.
What is the history of Korela?
Korela is bound up with the Langinkoski rapids. Beside the falls stands the Langinkosken keisarillinen kalastusmaja, an imperial fishing lodge built as a quiet retreat away from the sawmill port that Kotka became after its charter in 1879. The Langinkosken kirkko rose nearby.
Both still mark the district.
Where is Korela?
Korela sits in north-western Kotka. It holds the mainland by the Langinkoski rapids, with the fortress district of Kyminlinna right alongside and Hovinsaari and the harbour island of Kotkansaari off to the south-east, all part of the same port on the coast of south-eastern Finland. Kyminlinna adjoins it.
