Yung Shue Wan holds most of what the island offers a visitor to sleep in, nearly all of it within a short walk of the ferry pier, so a room here reaches Hong Kong Island by boat and the rest of the village on foot. Sok Kwu Wan, around the coast to the south-east, keeps far fewer rooms.

What are the main landmarks in Yung Shue Wan?
Yung Shue Wan gathers along one shore lane. The ferry pier stands at its head, and from the water the towers of Hong Kong Island and the Aberdeen shore fill the view across the channel. Shops line the lane.
A footpath climbs out of the village and crosses Lamma Island to Sok Kwu Wan, the one other settlement of any size.
What is the history of Yung Shue Wan?
Yung Shue Wan owes its size to the water. No bridge ties Lamma Island to Hong Kong Island, so the village holding the island's landing point drew the bulk of the settlement while every other cluster on Lamma Island stayed small. Sok Kwu Wan is the one exception, and a modest one.
Aberdeen lies closest across the channel. The gap of water did the rest, keeping the village at its own scale as towers filled Kowloon and the shore opposite.

Yung Shue Wan sits at the northern end of Lamma Island, on a bay open to the channel that divides the island from Hong Kong Island. Hills rise behind it.
