Quadrilatero della moda, Milan — Area Guide & Where to Stay

The Quadrilatero della moda is Milan's luxury-fashion district, set in the historic centre just north-east of the Duomo. Four streets frame it: Via Monte Napoleone, Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga, and Corso Venezia. Their neoclassical palazzi hold the flagship boutiques of Italy's major fashion houses. The quarter stays walkable. Along its western edge, Via Manzoni also carries the Museo Poldi Pezzoli.
About Quadrilatero della moda

Where to stay in Quadrilatero della moda
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Staying inside the Quadrilatero means a small and costly pool of rooms, since the quarter is given over to boutiques and grand residences. The reward is position: the shops of Via Monte Napoleone and Via della Spiga sit at the door, the Museo Poldi Pezzoli is a block away on Via Manzoni, and the Duomo is a short walk south. Nights fall quiet once shops close.
The quarter suits sightseeing and luxury shopping more than late bars or clubs. Travellers after cheaper rooms or nightlife should base themselves in the wider Milan and visit on foot.

What is the history of Quadrilatero della moda?
Via Monte Napoleone traces the line of the ancient Roman walls of Mediolanum, the earlier name of Milan. Its own name comes from the Monte Napoleone, a public-debt institution founded under Napoleonic rule. Aristocrats came first.
Through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Milanese nobility raised neoclassical palazzi here. The Museo Poldi Pezzoli grew from one such patrician collection on Via Manzoni. In the twentieth century Italian fashion houses took over the ground floors, turning the quarter into the city's luxury retail heart.

The district sits in Municipio 1, the historic core of Milan, a short walk north-east of the Duomo. Via Monte Napoleone and Via della Spiga run its length. Cross-streets like Via Sant'Andrea link the two.
Via Manzoni closes the north-west flank, while Corso Venezia and the Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli mark the eastern side. Brera lies just beyond Via Manzoni.
