What are the main landmarks in Barriera di Lanzo?

Casa Ponchia, known as the Casa delle Aquile, went up in the 1920s in Liberty style to the design of the architect whose name it carries. The Cascina Galliziana, called La Città, still waits for its restoration. The parishes of Sant'Antonio Abate and San Paolo Apostolo serve the quarter, and the apse of the Cappella di San Marchese survives.

Turin named the garden between via Brosso and via Venaria for Perugino in 2018, and the green between via Lanzo and via Berrino for the partisan Maria Vanoli in 2019. Piazza Stampalia keeps its 1912 dazio buildings.

What is the history of Barriera di Lanzo?

The name comes from the old customs wall, at the point where the road from the Valli di Lanzo entered the city, and so from the Valle d'Aosta and Switzerland beyond. There were two barriers. The Vecchia lies further south, inside the Spina Reale, and is now known as Borgata Tesso; the Nuova sits northwest of it.

The split followed an enlargement of the communal boundaries, which made two quarters that are historically alike and substantially different, alongside Borgata Vittoria, Madonna di Campagna, and Lucento and Vallette further west.
