What are the main landmarks in Borgo Vittoria?
The neo-medieval sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Salute, by Giovanni Angelo Reycend, holds the relics of Saint Leonardo Murialdo and a glass ossuary of the bones found in its foundations. Queen Margherita commissioned its portico statues in 1906. They show Victor Amadeus II and Prince Eugene.
La Fossata, a walled 17th-century farm that served Piedmontese troops as a stronghold and store in 1706, was restored by the city and reopened in 2019.
What is the history of Borgo Vittoria?
Woods, fields, and pasture covered the ground until building began in the 17th century. In 1880 the Alfieri di Sostegno family sold plots to David Emanuel Levi. The settlement was first called borgata Levi.
Then, in 1885, digging for the Salute church turned up human bones, which were linked to the battle of 7 September 1706, and the quarter took the name Vittoria. The ironworks opened in nearby Madonna di Campagna in 1891, and the population grew most from the 1950s to the mid-1970s.
Where is Borgo Vittoria?
Borgo Vittoria lies in the north of Turin. The Stura di Lanzo and its riverside flats bound it to the north, and the railway link and Corso Venezia to the east, towards Rebaudengo and Barriera di Milano. Corso Mortara, close to the Dora Riparia, closes the south edge.
On the west, Via Orvieto and Via Enrico Fermi mark the line with Madonna di Campagna.
