Duindorp is residential first and foremost, a grid of fishing-family housing with very few hotel beds of its own. Stay here for the harbour and the dunes, not for nightlife. The Scheveningen boulevard, its beach, and attractions like Sea Life Scheveningen and Beelden aan Zee sit a short walk north, so you get the coast without the crowded seafront strip.
If you want a proper choice of rooms you book in Scheveningen proper or in central The Hague and tram back. Quiet nights are the trade.

Duindorp keeps few sights inside its own streets; the draws lie just beyond it. North along the Scheveningen seafront stand Museum Scheveningen, the aquarium at Sea Life Scheveningen, and the sculpture museum Beelden aan Zee, built into the dunes above the beach. Further inland the wider The Hague museum quarter holds Kunstmuseum Den Haag and The Mesdag Collection.
The miniature city of Madurodam lies east in Scheveningen. All of it is close.
What is the history of Duindorp?
The name means dune village, and that is how Duindorp began: rows of housing raised on the dunes for the fishing families of Scheveningen. It grew in the early twentieth century as the fishing harbour beside it expanded and crews needed homes near the quays. For decades the neighbourhood stayed a tight working community, its rhythms tied to the sea and the herring fleet.
Boats came and went. Generations of the same families filled its narrow streets, and the bond between Duindorp and the Scheveningen harbour shaped the character it still carries.
Where is Duindorp?
Duindorp sits in the north-west of The Hague, right on the North Sea. Coastal dunes and the open beach form its seaward edge, while the working harbour of Scheveningen wraps its northern and eastern flank, separating the neighbourhood from the resort's boulevard. The layout is a tight grid of low brick housing.
Streets are short and narrow. Beyond the dunes lies nothing but water.
