What is the history of Munkvoll?

Munkvoll owes its shape to the tramway. The line that scales the Byåsen ridge made its depot here, and around the workshops and the stop a residential quarter of south-western Trondheim took form. That depot endured.

The Sporveismuseet i Trondheim now keeps the old carriages at this very ground, a reminder that the route to the marka built the neighbourhood, while the older parish of Havstein lay just along the slope before the suburb filled in around it.

Where is Munkvoll?

Munkvoll occupies the south-western slopes of Trondheim, set on the same ridge as neighbouring Byåsen and reaching up toward the forest of Bymarka above. The tram line that climbs from the centre runs through the district to its depot here, and the houses give way near the top to the trails and ski ground of the marka, with the quarter of Flatåsen spread across the slope to the south. The woods begin close by.
