Skiing & Snow

Ski trips reward choosing the mountain before the hotel: snow reliability, season length, and the village at the lift base differ more than the hotels do. Start with where the runs are, then stay where the lifts start.

Common questions

How do I choose between ski destinations?

Judge the season, not the brochure: altitude and latitude set how early and late the snow holds, and lift-base villages save the daily commute to the slopes. A smaller area with reliable cover and lodging at the lifts usually beats a bigger name reached by bus.
