About Islinge
What are the main landmarks in Islinge?
Villa Constantia, built around 1900 for the sea captain and coal merchant H.A. Söderberg and named after his wife Constance, has been the residence of Indonesia's ambassador since 2012. North Korea's embassy stands on Norra Kungsvägen.
Ansgarskyrkan, Lidingö is close by, and Villa Foresta lies toward Herserud.
What is the history of Islinge?
Islinge takes its name from Islinge gård, recorded as early as 1379. Only the north wing of its buildings survives. The main building, which stood just south of Norra Kungsvägen, was pulled down in the 1970s.
The mining engineer Carl Gustaf Dahlerus bought the estate in 1889 and founded the Islinge villa community in 1905, from which the district grew. Lidingövarvet moved to its northern edge in 1919 and built Ivar Kreuger's motor yacht Svalan.
Where is Islinge?
Islinge's houses line both sides of Norra Kungsvägen, up to Kyttingevägen in the north and Lejonvägen in the south. Lilla Värtan bounds it to the west and Tyktorpsvägen to the north. The ground is hilly.
Its highest point, at the Snårstigen turning place, stands 40 metres above sea level.
