Käppala is a residential district of Lidingö, the island city east of central Stockholm, set on the island's eastern side.

About Käppala

Where to stay in Käppala

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Käppala is a quiet residential stretch of eastern Lidingö rather than a hotel quarter. If you want the open water close, the calm of Breviks kyrka and its surroundings, and an easy run into central Stockholm, this side of the island suits a relaxed stay. Lodging is hard to find on this residential side.

Visitors to Lidingö usually book in the central districts and travel out to Käppala by the island line.

About Käppala

What are the main landmarks in Käppala?

Breviks kyrka is the landmark of Käppala, the parish church standing on the eastern part of Lidingö. It serves the community along the island's eastern shore. The church marks the district.

Beyond it the appeal is the open water that frames eastern Lidingö, the wooded slopes and the quiet streets running toward the bay and on toward neighbouring Gåshaga.

What is the history of Käppala?

Käppala spread across the eastern end of Lidingö as the island turned from farmland to a city of villas over the last century. The parish church here, Breviks kyrka, gathered the growing community of the eastern shore as homes filled the slopes toward the open water. The church anchored the area.

Around it Käppala grew into the calm residential district that runs along eastern Lidingö beside Gåshaga.

Where is Käppala?

It looks out to the bay. Käppala occupies eastern Lidingö in eastern Sweden, toward the open water that rings the island, with the districts of Mölna and Gåshaga along the same eastern shore.
