Käppala rewards a stay by the water: Käppalabadet's beach of sand and rock is in the district, and Lidingöbanan stops at Käppala, at the corner of Herkulesvägen and Gåshagaleden. Villas and, from the 1960s, blocks of flats fill its streets. Södra Kungsvägen runs from Gåshaga through the district along the island's southern side to the Lidingö bridge.

What are the main landmarks in Käppala?
From 1869 until 1899 Käppala ångsåg on Käppalaviken sawed timber floated in from all over Mälardalen, even from Åland, and sent it abroad by sailing ship. The boat club Käppala Båtsällskap has used the sawmill site since 1947. Next to it is Käppalabadet, a beach of sand and smooth rock slabs.
Käppala vattentorn, finished in 1962, crowns Tallberghöjden at 46 metres above sea level, and Käppalaverket, a sewage works of the Käppalaförbundet, was built between 1958 and 1969.
What is the history of Käppala?
Käppala farm appears, spelt Kiepla, on Peder Mehnlöös's map of 1661, the oldest known map of Lidingö; like every farm on the island it then belonged to the Djursholm entail, dissolved in 1774. In 1906 the financier Allan Abenius bought Brevik, Gåshaga, and Käppala and laid out Segelledens Villastad, named for the sailing lane through Halvkakssundet. Its 1910s street plan still shapes the district's east and south.
Building began after the First World War. Larger blocks of flats followed from the 1960s.
Where is Käppala?
Käppala borders Gåshaga and Killinge to the north, Stockby to the west, and Brevik to the south. To the south-east it runs out to Halvkakssundet. Part of that strait belongs to the district.
Talludden, also called Neptuns udde after the salvage and diving firm Neptun that owned the land, lies in its north on the Gåshaga border.
