About Kottla
What are the main landmarks in Kottla?
The Apelsinvillan has been a protected listed building since 1982. It counts among the best-preserved large timber summer villas of its day. In the garden of Kottla farm grows Lidingö's oldest oak, 9.5 metres round and put by arborists at about 600 years.
Most of the villas along Storgårdsvägen and Lillgårdsvägen date from 1905 to 1925, and a new local plan of 2020 is to protect them for their natural and cultural value.
What is the history of Kottla?
Kottla farm's main building, from the later 18th century, still stands at Storgårdsvägen 10. Storgårdsvägen is among Lidingö's oldest roads. Its forerunner appears on the oldest surviving map of the island, from the 1660s.
Summer villas went up on the western and northern shores of Kottlasjön at the end of the 19th century. Trasthagen, a summer-cottage area of the late 1880s, had no road at first: guests came by boat from the south side of the lake, and the road was laid only in the 1930s as a relief work.

Kottla lies on southern Lidingö, inside the Skärsätra district, by the lake Kottlasjön. Lidingöbanan stops at Kottla. Kottlavägen links Vasavägen by the Stockby riding hall in the north with Södra Kungsvägen in the south.
A park on the lake's western shore is known locally as Kottlaparken.
