Torsvik puts a stay at the Lidingö end of the bridge over Lilla Värtan. Shops and services line Stockholmsvägen, Torsviks backe, and Vasavägen, many of them in 1950s buildings with flats above the street-level stores. Lidingöbanan's Herserud stop, the end of the line's southern branch when it opened in 1914, is also named Foresta-Millesgården.
Cyclists and walkers still use Torsviks backe.

About Torsvik
What are the main landmarks in Torsvik?
Villa Foresta stands above the old steamer jetty; the electric lift that climbed the Herserud cliff to it, built in 1911 when the villa was finished, came down in 1947. Lidingö Arena, by the architect Bo Möller, went up in 1976 and 1977 on the north side of Stockholmsvägen. Across the road rise the three Kopparhusen towers by Gunnar Jacobson and Olof Strömberg, from the late 1950s and 1960s.
Kopparhusen first held only offices.
What is the history of Torsvik?
From the mid-14th century goods and travellers crossed Lilla Värtan here to Ropsten in Stockholm. Lidingö's first regular rowing ferry ran there. A map of 1720 marks only a croft and a ferry place on the shore.
Before the old Lidingö bridge opened in 1925, steamers landed at a jetty below Villa Foresta, while Torsviks backe, the steep slope up from the water, carried the main road onto the island until the new bridge opened in 1971.
Where is Torsvik?
Torsvik lies in the western part of southern Lidingö, on the hill above the landfall of the Lidingö bridge, and takes in Herserud, the island's oldest villa area. Old Torsvik is the upper end of the entry road, where Stockholmsvägen begins. Its housing gathers in two large estates, Torsvikshöjden and Torsviksplatån.
