Olivedal is a district in south-western Gothenburg, the port city on the coast of south-western Sweden.
About OlivedalWhere to stay in Olivedal
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Olivedal is a real choice for visitors. The Linnéstaden streets along its lower edge carry much of the eating and drinking on this side of Gothenburg, and the centre is an easy walk or short ride away. Book here if you want grand stone blocks under Oscar Fredriks kyrka, the green of Majvallen at hand and the redoubt of Skansen Kronan a stroll over towards Haga.
It trades the harbour bustle for room to breathe.

About Olivedal
What are the main landmarks in Olivedal?
Oscar Fredriks kyrka is the quarter's signpost. Its dark steeple climbs above the stone streets of Olivedal and can be read from across this side of Gothenburg. The hilltop redoubt of Skansen Kronan sits a short way north-east over Haga, while the green of Majvallen opens within the district itself for a breath of space.
Down towards the river the brick mass of Masthuggskyrkan marks the western skyline, with the cafés and shops of Linnéstaden lining the slope below.
What is the history of Olivedal?
Stone-built blocks filled the rise here. As Gothenburg pushed west of the old fortifications, dense apartment streets took shape across the slopes that became Olivedal, and the tall spire of Oscar Fredriks kyrka rose over the quarter as its parish church. The leafy avenues that drew the name Linnéstaden grew along the lower ground.
From workers' rows and grand stone fronts this south-western corner settled into one of the inner districts of Gothenburg, set beside Annedal in Västra Götaland County.
Where is Olivedal?
Olivedal holds the south-western flank of central Gothenburg. The quarter runs across a rise just west of Annedal, with the cliffside redoubt of Skansen Kronan over towards Haga to the north-east and the popular Linnéstaden streets folded into its lower edge as it falls towards Masthuggskyrkan and the harbour ground. All of it lies within Gothenburg, the chief city of Västra Götaland County in south-western Sweden.
