What is the history of Olskroken?
The trams made the place. Olskroken's name is known from the mid-17th century, and the district was built up from 1884 into the early 1900s, mostly with landshövdingehus; from 1973 a decade of heavy clearance drew strong criticism. Spårvägssällskapet Ringlinien keeps the tram heritage running, and the fort of Skansen Lejonet, built in 1687 by Erik Dahlbergh against a Danish attack, watched the approaches to the city.
Sankt Pauli kyrka gathered the growing parish. The quarter built up as a working crossroads.
