About Belcaro
What are the main landmarks in Belcaro?
Belcaro is short on big monuments but long on small draws. The University of Denver frames its southern side, and there the Daniel L. Ritchie Center hosts hockey and gymnastics while the Victoria H. Myhren Gallery shows student and touring art. Four Mile Historic Park preserves an early stage stop beside Cherry Creek, counted among the oldest standing structures anywhere around Denver and still ringed by cottonwoods.
The Mizel Museum, the International Church of Cannabis and the Burns Park Sculpture Garden round out an unusual roster. Small streets, big variety.
What is the history of Belcaro?
Belcaro grew as one of Denver's planned residential quarters. Belcaro built out in stages. The neighbourhood took shape as landscaped lots spread out from the estate grounds that once dominated this stretch of the city, filling in over decades into the settled streets that define it.
Four Mile Historic Park predates the houses by far, its stage stop having greeted wagon travellers bound for early Denver. The Burns Park Sculpture Garden marks a later chapter. Its abstract works arrived when the city turned a small park into an outdoor gallery.
Where is Belcaro?
Belcaro lies in south-central Denver, where Cherry Creek curves past Four Mile Historic Park and the University of Denver campus fills its southern edge. Trees line every block.
