The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
This is a residential neighbourhood first. Hotels inside it are scarce, so most visitors book beds in central Denver and walk or ride the short distance east to the park. The quiet streets around Cheesman Park suit travellers who want mansion-lined blocks, easy reach of the Denver Botanic Gardens, and a calmer base than downtown, while the bigger stock of rooms sits back toward the museum district around the Denver Art Museum.

About Cheesman Park
What are the main landmarks in Cheesman Park?
The park itself is the anchor. Its lawns and the neighbouring Denver Botanic Gardens draw the crowds that the surrounding houses never could, and the International Church of Cannabis holds down a corner nearby with its painted sanctuary. Two grand houses give the blocks their character.
The Molly Brown House and the Tears-McFarlane House both survive from the era when this edge of Denver filled with mansions, and the Fillmore Auditorium keeps a music room running a short way to the west.
What is the history of Cheesman Park?
The park came from a cemetery. Denver laid out its early burial ground on this rise and later cleared the graves to open the green space that gave the neighbourhood its name, and the mansion streets grew up around that new park as wealthy families moved east from the crowded core. The Molly Brown House dates from those decades.
The Tears-McFarlane House joined them soon after, and together the surviving homes tie Cheesman Park to the years when Denver spread outward from downtown into these quieter blocks.
Where is Cheesman Park?
Cheesman Park sits on a low rise east of downtown Denver, its grid of residential streets wrapped around the open park and the adjoining Denver Botanic Gardens.
