What is the history of Capitol Hill?
Capitol Hill took shape as Denver's wealthy quarter once the state chose the hilltop for the Colorado State Capitol. Silver and railroad money built the mansions. Grand homes such as the Molly Brown House and the Creswell Mansion went up along its avenues in the decades either side of 1900, when mining and rail fortunes drew Denver's leading families to the streets around the seat of government.
Later the big houses were split into flats, and the neighbourhood became one of the city's densest.
