Downtown grew as the founding core of Denver. The oldest streets took shape here as the settlement rose by the South Platte River, and the district gathered the churches, mansions, and civic halls that mark an early Colorado city, with the Molly Brown House and the Central Presbyterian Church surviving from that first build-out. Wealth settled early.
The Colorado Governor's Mansion later joined them.
