What are the main landmarks in Cherry Creek?
The Cherry Creek Shopping Center anchors the neighbourhood from East First Avenue, with the eight-screen AMC Cherry Creek 8 tucked inside it. Completed in 1953 and renovated in 1990, the mall stands on the banks of the creek. North of it the shops of Cherry Creek North fill First, Second and Third Avenues, and Fillmore Plaza, on Fillmore Street between First and Second, carries the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.
The Ross-Cherry Creek Branch library keeps its doors on Milwaukee Street. Pulaski Park closes the walk.
What is the history of Cherry Creek?
The stream came first. Its banks drew Denver's earliest settlement, and Four Mile Historic Park preserves the 1859 stage-road homestead that greeted travellers arriving along the creek toward the young town. The neighbourhood took the creek's name and filled the blocks inland from it, between University Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard.
A worked-out sand pit at First Avenue and University Boulevard served the city as a refuse tip in the 1940s, and Temple Hoyne Buell drew the low row of shops that went up over it in 1949. The Cherry Creek Shopping Center was finished in 1953.
