Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
The expressways decide everything here, because Doral sits inside a ring of them and the side of the city a bed sits on determines which ramp gets used morning and evening. Miami International Airport is 8 kilometres off. That proximity makes the eastern side of Doral, along the Palmetto Expressway, the obvious base for anyone flying in or out on a tight schedule.
Short hops, easy parking. West is quieter. The Ronald Reagan Turnpike and the Florida Everglades close that flank, and the streets behind them belong to a newer, lower-density Doral where the Dolphin Expressway is a drive rather than a walk.
Medley lies immediately north and Sweetwater immediately south, both of them close enough to widen a search without leaving Miami-Dade County. Neither is a destination in itself. Culture sits outside the city limits.
Frost Art Museum and the FIU Baseball Stadium, the Coral Gables Museum, the Coral Gables Merrick House and the Church of the Little Flower are all reachable from Doral across Miami-Dade County rather than found within it, which matters when choosing a base. Spanish carries most of South Florida. Two nights is enough for the airport and the museums together, and Downtown Miami is 21 kilometres east for anyone who wants the rest of the metropolitan area.

Growth followed the airport. Sweetwater sits on the far side of the Dolphin Expressway. The Florida Everglades close the western flank, which leaves the city no room to spread that way. The older heritage belongs to the neighbours.
