Spring Hill is not built for visitors. Rooms are thin on the ground in an unincorporated community that grew as housing rather than as a resort, and most people staying here are doing so because of something nearby rather than something on the spot. The west side is the exception.
Hernando Beach sits a short drive out on the Nature Coast, and the streets at that end of Spring Hill put the shoreline within easy reach of a morning start. Brooksville stands up the road to the northeast, inside the same Hernando County, and a bed on that side shortens the run to it. The southern end faces Tampa.
Anyone using Spring Hill as a base for the Tampa, Saint Petersburg and Clearwater metro area will want the roads south, since the drive is long enough that the wrong end of a place this wide costs real time. Sixty-two square miles hold the whole community. That size is the thing to plan around, because the community covers a great deal of ground and its edges face three different destinations.

There is no founding date on file. Spring Hill arrives in the documents as a census-designated place rather than as a chartered town, which is a way of saying that its boundaries are a statistical convenience rather than a municipal line. Hernando County came first.
Brooksville stands up the road to the northeast, and the ground that became Spring Hill lay between that town and the Nature Coast shore at Hernando Beach. After that it simply grew. The community became one of the larger settlements of West Central Florida without ever taking a city government, and the Tampa, Saint Petersburg and Clearwater metro area absorbed it into the same statistical grouping.
Florida's Nature Coast gave it a regional name. That label ties Spring Hill to the shoreline west of it rather than to the metropolitan corridor south, and the two pulls still describe the place better than any dated event in its record. Hernando Beach sits on the water to the west.
Tampa lies south. The United States census is, in the end, the document that draws the line around it, and no charter has ever replaced it.

Sixty-two square miles of low Florida ground. Spring Hill lies inland from the Nature Coast, east of Hernando Beach and southwest of Brooksville, with Hernando County around it on every side and Tampa well to the south. The land is flat and subtropical.
Nothing rises here. West Central Florida carries the same profile for miles in each direction.
What is the climate of Spring Hill?
The Nature Coast tempers it a little. Sea air reaches Spring Hill from the west, but the community sits inland enough that summer afternoons run hotter and stiller here than they do down at Hernando Beach. Storms come in the wet months.
Winter is the dry season across West Central Florida, mild enough that the difference between the shore and the inland streets nearly disappears.
How do you get to Spring Hill?
Pavement is the only connection Spring Hill has to anywhere else. Tampa is the big approach from the south, and the metro area it names alongside Saint Petersburg and Clearwater supplies most of the traffic that turns north into Hernando County. Brooksville is the inland turn.
Hernando Beach closes the western end, a short run out to the Nature Coast that most visitors make in the other direction.
