Camp Washington keeps no hotels. Sleep is a short drive away, which makes the neighborhood an afternoon and a late-night stop rather than a base. Book in Downtown Cincinnati or Over-the-Rhine and run north on Spring Grove Avenue, or come down Hopple Street from Clifton on the hillside above.

What are the main landmarks in Camp Washington?
The American Sign Museum occupies part of the Oesterlein Machine Company-Fashion Frocks, Inc. Complex at 1330 Monmouth Avenue, a machine-tool plant of 1918 that later cut dresses and sewed parachutes. Signs stand in lit rows inside.
The Crosley Building carries eight floors and a tower on Arlington Street, put up in 1929 for the Crosley Radio Corporation and shaped to echo one of its radio sets. Camp Washington Chili has cooked on Colerain Avenue since 1940. Valley Park and Taft Field are the only two parks.
What is the history of Camp Washington?
Camp Washington carries the name of the military camp that mustered Ohio troops on the Mill Creek bottoms during the Mexican-American War. The first Ohio State Fair opened here in 1850, a year late because cholera had swept the city. Cincinnati annexed the place in November 1869.
On the old camp ground the city raised the Cincinnati Work House between 1867 and 1869, five stories drawn by Adams and Hannaford that stood until 1990. The Avenue Grounds held the Cincinnati Reds from 1876 to 1879. A subway platform at Marshall Avenue was dug for a line that never opened, then cleared in 1961 for Interstate 75.
