Evanston puts a guest beside Xavier University, and that is the reason to come. The neighborhood runs light on rooms. Victory Parkway carries the western edge down toward Walnut Hills and the basin, where Cincinnati keeps most of its hotel beds, so the usual pattern is a downtown base and a short trip out.
You will want this side of the city for a game at the Cintas Center or a graduation weekend. O'Bryonville and its shops keep the far end, on Madison Road.

What are the main landmarks in Evanston?
Xavier University holds the north end of Evanston, with its campus north of Dana Avenue and east of Victory Parkway, and the Cintas Center went up on that ground in 2000. Older sport sits further south. The Cincinnati Tennis Club has played on the same courts off Dexter Avenue since 1899, and the Tri-State Tennis Tournament it hosted from 1903 to 1968 grew into the Cincinnati Open.
The Coca-Cola Bottling Corporation Building faces Dana Avenue in Streamline Moderne limestone and glass block, finished in 1938 and later taken over by the university. Owl's Nest Park covers the southern corner, shared with East Walnut Hills.
What is the history of Evanston?
Evanston began as the village of Idlewood, renamed in 1893 after Evanston, Illinois. Annexation came at noon on November 19, 1903, in the same round that carried Bond Hill and Hyde Park into Cincinnati. O'Bryonville had gone first, in 1870.
St. Xavier College bought 26 acres from the Avondale Athletic Club and moved out from downtown in 1912, and the campus has anchored the northern half of the neighborhood ever since. A bottling works followed. The Coca-Cola Bottling Corporation Building, designed by the Cincinnati architect John Henri Deekin, went up on Dana Avenue in 1938.

Evanston sits between Victory Parkway and Duck Creek Road on Cincinnati's east side, with Madison Road along the Hyde Park edge and Norwood past the north end.
