Sea Point is a dense residential suburb on the Atlantic Seaboard of Cape Town, wedged between the ocean and the lower slopes of Signal Hill. Its seafront is a long public promenade. Apartment blocks stand shoulder to shoulder above it, and Main Road carries the shops and restaurants a block inland. Green Point lies north toward the city centre; Bantry Bay and Clifton continue south.

Sea Point suits visitors who want to sleep by the sea without City Bowl or waterfront prices. Its apartment blocks along Beach Road hold a deep supply of guesthouses, serviced flats and small hotels, many facing the ocean. The promenade puts a long shoreline walk on the doorstep, and Main Road keeps restaurants, cafés and late-night shops within a short stroll.
It gets lively after dark. For the museums and the harbour, the city centre is a quick drive north through Green Point.

What are the main landmarks in Sea Point?
The Sea Point Promenade is the suburb's defining sight, a paved seafront walk lined with palms, lawns and public art that runs the length of the shore. At its southern reach the Sea Point Pavilion holds a large saltwater swimming pool set above the rocks. Tidal pools at Saunders' Rocks and Milton give sheltered bathing where the open Atlantic runs cold.

What is the history of Sea Point?
Sea Point grew through the nineteenth century as a seaside suburb west of the Cape Town city centre, taking its name from an early coastal farm. Villas and boarding houses came first. Over the following century most gave way to the high-rise blocks that crowd the seafront, and a large Jewish community settled among them, leaving synagogues and shops along Main Road.
The shoreline itself was laid out as a public promenade open to the whole city. It remains one of Cape Town's most tightly packed quarters.
Where is Sea Point?
Sea Point occupies a narrow shelf between the Atlantic Ocean and Signal Hill, roughly two kilometres of coast on the western side of Cape Town. Beach Road traces the water's edge. Regent Road and Main Road run parallel a block inland, forming the suburb's commercial spine.
Green Point adjoins it to the north; Bantry Bay begins at the cliffs to the south.
