What are the main landmarks in Čengić vila?

Two national institutions anchor any day out from Čengić vila: the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, both a short run east along the valley floor. The ICAR Canned Beef Monument stands with them, an ironic marker of wartime aid. Saint Joseph's Church stands on the same eastern side.

Swimming goes the other way, at the Olimpijski Bazen Otoka. Nothing monumental sits inside the units themselves.

What is the history of Čengić vila?

The record here is administrative rather than antique. Sarajevo grew west along its valley floor in the second half of the twentieth century, and the ground that Čengić vila covers was taken into the new municipality of Novo Sarajevo along with Grbavica and the estates beyond it. Two units came out of that ordering: Čengić Vila I and Čengić Vila II.

Both names stayed. Older Sarajevo, with its Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian layers, lies east of here and always did.
