The Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Geboortekerk marks the old parish core, and the few rooms in Drongen sit on the village streets around it, while the larger supply waits east in the Gent centre. The Flanders Sports Arena is the exception. A track session at the Vlaams Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx makes a bed on this side of the city worth the trade.

The Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Geboortekerk sits at the old parish core, and Saint Martin's Church, the Sint-Jan-Baptistkerk, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Koningin van de Vredekerk, and the Sint-Theresia van het kind Jezuskerk stand at points of their own. Sint-Gerolfkapel is smaller. The chapel and the Sint-Gerolf church share one dedication, while the Flanders Sports Arena and the Vlaams Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx pull in crowds the parish streets never see.
What is the history of Drongen?
Drongen ran as a municipality of its own until the second half of the twentieth century, when Gent took in part of the territory in 1967 and absorbed the rest ten years later. The merger took effect on 1 January 1977. Village names outlived the paperwork, and the parish churches still fix the shape of Drongen more clearly than any boundary drawn in Gent.
