Ledeberg keeps very few beds of its own, so most visitors book across the Schelde in central Gent and ride the tram back up the Brusselsesteenweg. Guesthouses and short-stay flats turn up on the streets around Ledebergplein and along the Hundelgemsesteenweg, in the same rows of nineteenth-century workers' houses that give the district its grain. Bellevue is quieter.
You get a garden-suburb address, the Schelde bank, and the Louisa d'Havébrug straight over to Stropkaai and the centre.

What are the main landmarks in Ledeberg?
Ledeberg gathers its set pieces on the Ledebergplein: the neo-Gothic Sint-Lievenskerk, built between 1869 and 1872 to a design by Edmond de Perre-Montigny, and the old town hall of 1878 facing it across the square. Off the Hundelgemsesteenweg stands the Cité Anglaise, one of the walled workers' courts, or beluiken, that industry left behind. The Bellevue garden quarter, laid out by Oscar Van de Voorde in the 1920s, runs down to the Schelde.
Above it rides the E17 viaduct. Its concrete ramps cut the territory in two.
What is the history of Ledeberg?
Records name Ledeberg as Letha in 964, and the Sint-Pietersabdij of Gent held it as a rural lordship through the whole feudal era. The Brusselsesteenweg, cut between 1704 and 1708, split the old village green and set the pattern for everything after. Flax and cotton mills, a brickworks and boatyards along the Schelde arrived in the middle decades of the nineteenth century, and the beluiken were thrown up to house the mill hands.
Ledeberg governed itself from 1801. Gent absorbed it in 1977.
Where is Ledeberg?
Ledeberg sits southeast of central Gent. The Schelde closes the western and southern flanks, and the Keizersvest, a channel dug in the fourteenth century between the Opperschelde and the Nederschelde, first drew the boundary with the city. Gentbrugge takes over to the east, where the Hundelgemsesteenweg runs on toward Geraardsbergen. Just over one square kilometre holds it all.
