For ages the potters of the plain turned out fine porcelain and glazed ware, and Zibo grew as a town of kilns and clay. Coal built the modern city. When coal was dug from the plain, mines and mills rose across the district, and the old kiln towns grew together into the city of Zibo.
The writer Pu Songling lived near. From this country came Pu Songling, who wrote his strange tales on the plain, and Zibo grew as a city of Shandong, keeping its kilns, its coal, and its ancient past. The old kilns still stand.
