La Boissière trades that for calmer nights. The Église Saint-Maurice de la Boissière anchors that quarter, while the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Foyers de Montreuil and the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix count among the other chapel names close by. Anyone here for the Château de Vincennes, the Paris Zoological Park, or the Aquarium du palais de la Porte Dorée does better on the southern edge, facing the Bois de Vincennes.
Val-de-Marne begins past that boundary. Bagnolet and Romainville hold the nearest alternatives, each with a church of its own. The église Saint-Leu-Saint-Gilles de Bagnolet and the Église Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois de Romainville mark them, and the tour hertzienne de Romainville stands over the same ground.
Saint-Mandé sits nearby too. Whichever end you choose, the Pavillon Carré de Baudouin and Saint-Germain de Charonne lie toward the Paris side, and the Père-Lachaise monuments with them.

The unofficial name Montreuil-sous-Bois ties the commune to the wood at its southern side, the Bois de Vincennes, with the Château de Vincennes standing at its far side. Two parish names split the commune. Bas-Montreuil grew on the low ground by the Paris boundary, keeping the église Saint-André du Bas-Montreuil, while la Boissière kept the Église Saint-Maurice de la Boissière above it.
Older chapels sit among them. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix and the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Foyers de Montreuil carry the smaller devotions of the same ground. Neighbouring parishes trace the same long settlement, from Saint-Germain de Charonne on the Paris side to the église Saint-Leu-Saint-Gilles de Bagnolet and the Église Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois de Romainville.
Later eras left plainer marks. Montreuil occupies just under nine square kilometres on the eastern side of Paris, in Seine-Saint-Denis, with the Bois de Vincennes below it and the Val-de-Marne boundary along that edge. Bas-Montreuil marks the low end. The name of la Boissière belongs to the higher streets, well back from the Paris boundary.
Bagnolet, Romainville, and Saint-Mandé ring the commune. Paris keeps its centre under seven kilometres off, and the Métropole du Grand Paris takes in Montreuil along with the capital.

Montreuil shares the weather of the capital. The temperate band that runs across Île-de-France gives the commune four distinct seasons, none of them extreme, with the Bois de Vincennes greening and bare on the same yearly turn. Rain arrives in every month rather than one wet season.
