What are the main landmarks in Feijenoord?

Water and cranes shape the sights. Along the Kop van Zuid the Wilhelminapier carries the Hotel New York, the old Holland America Line building where emigrants once boarded, now flanked by the tower of De Rotterdam and the long sweep of the Erasmusbrug across the river. Katendrecht adds its own pull.

The remade Rijnhaven wharves draw crowds to the peninsula, and out in the stream Noordereiland sits between the Nieuwe Maas and the Koningshaven, reached by the Willemsbrug.

What is the history of Feijenoord?

Shipbuilding made this bank. The borough grew through the nineteenth century as Rotterdam pushed its port to the south side of the Nieuwe Maas, and the Fijenoord yard turned the low land into one of the city's great centres of iron shipbuilding and marine engineering. Its river was reshaped to match.

Dredgers cut the Koningshaven between 1872 and 1874, cutting Noordereiland loose as an island, while the Feyenoord football club took its name from these streets before moving its ground away.
