What are the main landmarks in 's-Gravenland?

The markers of 's-Gravenland are its water, its park, and its old road. On Ringvaartweg the Oosterkapel stands, a small chapel among the houses, while Winkelcentrum Prinsenland gathers the local shops. Open water from the Ringvaartplas edges the neighbourhood, and Prinsenpark carries its green.

What is the history of 's-Gravenland?

's-Gravenland takes its name from the 's-Gravenweg, a road far older than the houses around it. The dyke came first. That route began as a water barrier stretching from Gouda toward Vlaardingen in the eleventh century, later becoming an inland lane between Kralingen and the polders once Schielands Hoge Zeedijk closed off the river.

The modern neighbourhood filled the polder ground beside it, low-rise and green, as Rotterdam spread east into the Prins Alexander district. The old road still runs on.
