About ŁobzówWhere to stay in Łobzów
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Łobzów lies within the Krowodrza district of Kraków, a residential quarter rather than a hotel one. Beds are modest here. Most visitors who base themselves in Łobzów pick the streets near Park Krakowski for green quiet, or the flats along Aleja 3 Maja toward the open Błonia meadow, then ride the tram a few minutes into the Old Town when the centre calls.
You trade the crowds for calm, leafy mornings a short run from the historic core of Kraków.
About Łobzów
What are the main landmarks in Łobzów?
The Łobzów Palace gives the neighbourhood its name and its history. Raised as a royal seat by Kazimierz Wielki and later rebuilt in Renaissance form, the palace outlived the crown and now houses the Akademia Wojsk Lądowych behind its old walls. The kings are long gone.
Nearby the enclosed garden of Park Krakowski and the wide green of Jordan Park draw walkers off the streets, while the Błonia meadow opens the southern edge of Łobzów toward the towers of central Kraków beyond.
What is the history of Łobzów?
Łobzów began as a village west of Kraków, on farmland outside the medieval walls. The palace came first. Kazimierz Wielki raised a royal residence here in the fourteenth century, and later kings enlarged the Łobzów Palace into a Renaissance seat surrounded by gardens, so the village grew up in the shadow of the court before the expanding city reached out and drew the fields into itself.
The tram brought the townhouses. As Kraków spread west the open ground filled with tenements, and Łobzów settled into the Krowodrza side of the city it had become.
Where is Łobzów?
Łobzów covers a level stretch of Kraków west of the Old Town, on the Krowodrza side of the city where tenement streets run down toward the open Błonia meadow.
