Powiśle, Warsaw — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Powiśle runs between the Vistula and the escarpment above it, the strip of Śródmieście holding the Copernicus Science Centre and Ostrogski Palace.

About Powiśle

Where to stay in Powiśle

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

Beds split between two levels here. The Presidential Palace, Hotel Bristol and Saint Anne's Church stand among the landmarks recorded in Powiśle, while the ground drops from the escarpment to the Vistula and the Copernicus Science Centre. Mariensztat holds the northern end.

Take the lower streets toward Solec if a river walk and the Fryderyk Chopin Museum matter more to you than stepping straight out into Śródmieście.

About Powiśle

What are the main landmarks in Powiśle?

Museums crowd the strip. The Fryderyk Chopin Museum, the Asia and Pacific Museum, the Eryk Lipiński Museum of Caricature and the Museum of Industry and Agriculture are all recorded in Powiśle, along with the Copernicus Science Centre down by the Vistula. Palaces answer them.

The Presidential Palace, the Primate's Palace and Ostrogski Palace appear in the same list as Saint Anne's Church, the Carmelite Church and the Visitationist Church, with the Monument to Prince Józef Poniatowski beside them.

What is the history of Powiśle?

Three names make one neighbourhood. Powiśle is composed of a central part, Mariensztat to the north and Solec to the south, all of them held between the Vistula and the escarpment that carries Śródmieście above the water. The Karenstorffer Tenement House and the Gray House are among the houses recorded here.

Commemoration runs dense, and monuments to Bolesław Prus, Jan Twardowski and Francesco Nullo stand in the same streets as the Monument in honor of Warsaw Insurgents and Civilians from Czerniaków.

Where is Powiśle?

The Vistula bounds one side of Powiśle and the escarpment the other, with Mariensztat to the north and Solec to the south. The borough is Śródmieście.
