Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Ursynów sorts itself by the Metro. Five stations opened here in 1995 on the line running from Kabaty up to Śródmieście, so a room near aleja Komisji Edukacji Narodowej buys one ride into central Warsaw. East of the track the blocks stand high at Kabaty, Natolin, Imielin, Stokłosy and Jary, where the shops and sports halls were built for the people who live in them.
West of it the district drops to single-family streets at Jeziorki, Pyry, Grabów and Wyczółki. Beds are thin either way, so take the western streets if you want a garden, or Kabaty if your days run into the centre.

What are the main landmarks in Ursynów?
Pałac Ursynów sits above Nowoursynowska Street, a country house that gave the district its name and now anchors the SGGW campus. St Catherine's Church is older, raised on the old village ground at Służew. The estates brought their own.
The Church of the Ascension of Christ rises over the blocks, the Ladislaus of Gielniów church serves the Natolin end, and Arena Ursynów takes the sport. Fort VIII Służew holds its earth banks, Kabaty Woods closes the southern end, and the Służewiec Racecourse sits at the western edge. Two names often attached to Ursynów sit outside it: the Temple of Divine Providence in Wilanów, Fort VIIA in Mokotów.
What is the history of Ursynów?
Ursynów was farmland and villages long before it was a district of Warsaw. Służew came first, with the parish that St Catherine's Church still serves, and Pyry, Grabów and Jeziorki followed along the same southern approach. Pałac Ursynów went up among the fields in 1776, and a later owner renamed it after himself, which is where the district got its name.
A Cipher Bureau outpost worked on German Enigma traffic from a base at Pyry beside Kabaty Woods. The estates came last. Jary, Stokłosy, Imielin, Na Skraju, Natolin and Kabaty went up in slabs, and Ursynów was cut out of Mokotów as a unit of its own in 1994.
