The estate lies well out from central Warsaw, and a stay here means the quiet northern edge of Bielany rather than the city proper, with the Northern Communal Cemetery taking up much of the ground alongside. Estrady Street was the village high street. A few wooden and brick houses from that time were still standing there in 2015.

The Northern Communal Cemetery, opened in 1973 across land taken from Wólka Węglowa, Młociny and Placówka, is the one feature of any size. Nothing else here is monumental. Estrady Street keeps the last of the village fabric.
What is the history of Wólka Węglowa?
Wólka Węglowa was a royal village, founded in the second half of the 18th century where a medieval settlement had stood. Its name follows the same pattern as Wola, but marks a smaller place; Węglana, the original form, points to the charcoal its people burned from the surrounding forests. Eighteen farms worked here between 1789 and 1790, and the village belonged to the Młociny estate through the 19th century.
In September 1939 it was fought over hard, and the 14th Jazłowiec Uhlan Regiment charged across it on the nineteenth of that month. Warsaw absorbed the village in 1951.
