Wawer is a district of villa plots strung along a single railway line, so the choice of where to stay comes down to which halt is within walking distance. Anin lies closest to central Warsaw, and its listed ticket-office building at Warszawa Anin stands among the villa streets. Międzylesie suits a longer stay: wider roads, deeper plots, and a direct service from Warszawa Międzylesie railway station. Radość sits further out. Patriotów carries the road traffic along the same corridor.
If you want the river rather than the line, take Zerzeń, where the Church of the Assumption faces the Vistula.

Wawer's landmarks are houses before anything else. Among those listed by name are willa Anna, willa Halina, willa Karpiżanka and willa Janin, with protected houses on Panny Wodnej, Wspomnień, Planetowa and Minerska behind them. Churches take the next rank: the Church of the Assumption at Zerzeń, the Felix of Cantalicia church and the Our Lady of the Angels church at Radość.
Two monuments mark the older ground, one to the November Uprising and one to Józef Piłsudski. Kościół św. Patryka stands outside Wawer, over the boundary in Gocław.
What is the history of Wawer?
Wawer was assembled from villages and never chartered as a town, and its oldest recorded event is the battle of the November Uprising fought here in 1831. Zerzeń is the oldest of those villages; its parish served the Vistula bank long before any street ran inland. The railway made the rest.
Plots were sold along the track at Anin, Radość and Międzylesie, and willa Stefanowice is one of many raised on them. The kościół Matki Bożej Królowej Polski and the convent of the Sióstr Felicjanek stand among the same streets. Warsaw took Wawer in as a district on 27 October 2002.
