Where to stay in Kviberg
The practical side of choosing where to sleep.
It was a garrison for most of the last century. Kviberg served that role and the Kvibergshusen belong to it, which is what most of the built ground here comes from. Its older use was farmland.
The village was donated to Nya Lödöse when that town was founded in 1473, and the town's northern part came to lie on Kviberg land. Gothenburg proper is southwest.
About Kviberg
What are the main landmarks in Kviberg?
The garrison buildings are what stands. Kvibergshusen date from the period when the district served as a garrison, and they are the visible part of that history. A crown estate came before them.
Kviberg counted among Gustav Vasa's inherited holdings after the town moved to Älvsborg, consisting of eight farms in 1549 and ten in 1572. Part of it went by another name. Large parts of Kviberg were called Björnkärr at the end of the 17th century, covering about eighty-seven morgenland, which is a hundred and forty tunnland.
What is the history of Kviberg?
Kviberg shared an owner with Grimbo in the 1350s. At least part of the homestead had the same owner in the middle of that decade as Grimbo in Tuve parish, which was later given to Aranäs abbey. A king gave it away in 1362.
Magnus Eriksson owned Kviberg that year and donated it to Gudhem abbey in the same year. A new town got it next. When Nya Lödöse was founded in 1473 the village of Kviberg was donated to it, and the town's northern part came to lie on Kviberg ground.
The crown took it back. After the town moved to Älvsborg, Kviberg was reckoned among Gustav Vasa's inherited estates, consisting of eight farms in 1549 and ten in 1572, and it returned to the town in the later 1570s. Which parish it belonged to is disputed.
Karl XI's notes of 1692 on Örgryte parish say Nylöse once stood on ground that is now Gothenburg's, in 1362 the village seems to have counted to Partille parish and later at least partly to Utby, which was split off from Partille and later returned to it, and either way it belonged with Härlanda to the much older Sävedal hundred.
Where is Kviberg?
Kviberg lies in the northeast of Gothenburg in the old Sävedal hundred, on ground that carried the northern part of Nya Lödöse and later a garrison.
