Brightmoor dates to 1922. It was platted as a working-class subdivision on the northwest edge of Detroit during the boom that pulled tens of thousands of assembly workers into Michigan, and the developer sold small lots and cheap frame houses to families arriving for factory pay. The neighbourhood was folded into Detroit soon after.
Its fortunes have tracked the city ever since.
