What is the history of Brush Park Historic District?
Brush Park rose in the decades after the Civil War as a quarter of grand homes for Detroit's lumber barons, merchants and industrialists, laid out on land the Brush family leased along the streets that still carry the name. Fortunes built it. Decline emptied the mansions across the twentieth century, and many stood gutted or lost before a long restoration turned the surviving houses around, a story the Ransom Gillis House tells in a single façade.
