Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Sutter Avenue carries no hotel. Marquette Manor and the Sutterview townhomes are Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority addresses rather than rooms to book, and the cleared acres between them hold nothing that takes a guest for the night, so a visit here starts from a bed somewhere else. Downtown Cincinnati, east across the Mill Creek valley, is the practical base.
Metro route 49 is the bus link up the hill. You will want a car.

What are the main landmarks in English Woods?
Marquette Manor is the tall one. The tower rises fifteen stories over a hilltop otherwise stripped of the low brick blocks that once filled it, and the Sutterview townhomes of 1960 hold the only other lived-in addresses on Sutter Avenue. A shuttered corner shop, the English Woods Market, advertised hot fast food, beer and wine, and checks cashed.
Backboards came off the basketball court. North Fairmount Recreation Area lies a short way south, downhill from the cleared ground.
What is the history of English Woods?
The Housing Act of 1937 paid for it. Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority planned the project in 1940 and opened it in 1942 as a whites-only development, a deliberate counterpart to the West End projects, and named the ground for David English, an early settler. Winton Terrace rose in the same push, over in Winton Place.
Sutterview added a second project in 1960. Ted Berry and the NAACP pressed until English Woods desegregated in that decade. Wrecking crews took roughly 700 apartments in 2005, and the redevelopment meant to follow never arrived.
Where is English Woods?
English Woods holds a hilltop west of the Mill Creek, hemmed by North Fairmount, Millvale, and South Cumminsville. Sutter Avenue climbs it.
