Mr. Gene's Dog House anchors South Cumminsville at 3703 Beekman Street, an orange-and-white drive-through that Gene Kuester set on the lot in 1962, and it has sold coneys, shakes, and ice cream ever since. Wayne Playfield sits at Beekman Street and Elmore Street, with two ballfields, an overlapping football field, courts, and a picnic shelter. St. Pius Place fills the old parish.

What is the history of South Cumminsville?
South Cumminsville began as the southern end of Cumminsville, a village platted around the tannery David Cummins built in 1845 and annexed by Cincinnati in 1873. German Catholic families arrived first. Black families settled around Follett Avenue and Dreman Avenue in the early twentieth century, and the Millvale apartments of the 1950s deepened that settlement.
The B&O railroad line cut through, hauling stock to the slaughterhouses, until Interstate 74 was driven across Cumminsville in the 1970s and severed the southern half from Northside. Dave Parker grew up on Borden Street, which carries his name as Dave Parker Way.
