About Bloemekenswijk
What are the main landmarks in Bloemekenswijk?
Museum Dr. Guislain occupies the asylum it is named for, at Jozef Guislainstraat 43. The Guislaingesticht opened in the 1850s when this was still farmland north of Gent, and the museum inside it shows the history of psychiatry along with work made by patients. Sint-Vincentiuskerk went up after the First World War.
The Westerbegraafplaats followed in the 1860s.

Flowers named the streets. Anjelierstraat, Chrysantstraat and Clematisstraat sit beside Boekweitstraat, Hoppestraat and Maïsstraat, which is the whole record of what this ground was before Gent reached it. A Wondelgem place of worship stood out here in the twelfth century.
The Verbindingsvaart was cut in 1863 between the Brugse Vaart and the Voorhaven, tying the district to the canal traffic running north toward Terneuzen.
