What is the history of Oakville?

Oakville dates from 1827. Its earliest streets survive as a heritage list of unusual length, and Navy Street, Reynolds Street, First Street and Thomas Street still carry the houses the town kept from its first century of building. Growth came from the lake and the road.

Trafalgar Road pulled the settlement inland from the north shore of Lake Ontario, and the churches raised along the way, Knox Presbyterian Church and Holy Trinity Church among them, mark how far the built-up ground had reached. Administration followed settlement. Oakville became the seat of Halton Region, which set its business apart from that of Burlington and Milton on its borders.

Where is Oakville?

It runs inland toward Milton and the upper part of Halton Region, while Burlington lies the other way along the same shore.
