Songbei District puts its lodging on the Sun Island side, where the ice season sets the calendar. Sun Island station and Ice and Snow World station both came with Harbin Metro Line 2 in 2021, so the winter grounds sit a few stops from the south bank. The city government sits on Century Avenue.
That side of the district is an office quarter, wide and new, with the Harbin Grand Theatre out on Cultural Island past it. Pick the Sun Island side if the ice park is why you came.

What are the main landmarks in Songbei District?
Songbei District keeps the winter attractions on its own ground: Harbin Ice and Snow World is cut each winter from the frozen Songhua River at the west end of Sun Island. Sun Island station opened in 2021. The Harbin Grand Theatre finished in 2015 on Cultural Island in the river wetlands, clad entirely in white aluminium panels to a design by Ma Yansong, and Siberian Tiger Park keeps its tiger enclosures next to Sun Island on the same bank.
Harbin Conservatory of Music took a building at 3179 Xuezi Street in 2016.
What is the history of Songbei District?
Songbei District was created on February 4, 2004, when the State Council approved Heilongjiang's request and moved three towns and two subdistricts out of Daowai District, together with the towns of Leye and Duiqingshan out of Hulan County. Provincial administration on this bank is older than that. Heilongjiang placed a municipal bureau at Majiachuankou on ground then held by Hulan County, and in 1925 the office was renamed for Songpu; in July 1933 the Manchukuo government folded Songpu and three other city administrations into a single Harbin Special City. 松北区 reads as north of the Songhua.
Where is Songbei District?
Songbei District holds the north bank of the Songhua River opposite Daoli District, with Hulan District to the northeast and Suihua past the northern line.
