About Xiangfang District

What are the main landmarks in Xiangfang District?

Xiangfang District keeps Harbin's first railway station. The station's depot of 1925 stands at 118 Tongzhan Street under green roofs, one storey high, its long front broken by tall arched windows. A carved boulder in the square outside Xiangfang railway station sets out the history.

The Heilongjiang Forest Botanical Garden opened to visitors in 1988 at 105 Haping Road, and the forestry ministry made it Harbin National Forest Park four years later. What is the history of Xiangfang District?

Xiangfang District is named for an incense workshop kept by a man from Laoting in Hebei. Russian engineers put the Chinese Eastern Railway's first Harbin station on this ground in 1898, well back from the Songhua River and its floods. They called it Harbin Station until the newer station in Nangang District took the name.

The present name dates from 1924. Manchukuo's city office made Xiangfang a district on 1 July 1938, and Soviet-aided plants for turbines, boilers, and bearings rose across the quarter through the 1950s. The State Council merged the neighbouring Dongli District into Xiangfang on 15 August 2006.
